I was commissioned to shoot a skyline panorama to form the backdrop for five’s new daytime show The Vanessa Show. They arranged a selection of locations that might work, I supplied the panorama shots for their graphics team to assemble, and the set designer gave final approval on which one to print onto the huge canvasses that go behind the set.
One of the locations I visited was the rooftop of Saint Georges Hotel at the top of Regent Street near BBC Broadcasting House, where I got two good panoramas. This one has the most recognisable London elements in it if you look closely. I wish I could have got a better exposure on the sky. I did shoot them RAW but processed this from the full resolution JPGs that were also created. I think going into the RAWs to create different images just for the sky would be a real pain in the backside so sometimes you just have to leave it alone!
I did pull the sky back a bit with a Curve, and gave the skyline more contrast and some brightening with a B&W layer set to Soft Light and another Curve. And no vignette!
