I had a lovely day on Sunday down in a village near Deal and Sandwich (and Dover), shooting portraits for a BBC documentary. The family had a great garden and we had plenty of sun beating down on us. Unfortunately strong sun doesn’t always make for the best portraits as you get one side of the face strongly lit and the other in bad shadow. Also, the LCD was almost impossible to see at times, and the CLS flash I brought for some fill wasn’t triggering well in direct sunlight, but we got going eventually and had a good time – I got some use out of the LumiQuest SoftBox III again, which was great. Once the publicity for the film has got going I’ll hopefully be able to post more about the day.

Anyway, we ended by heading to a local pebble beach, where I didn’t need the flash as the sun was going down, and we got some of the best shots of the day in natural light. I also grabbed a couple of arty shots for myself, as it’s not often I’m at the sea! I’m also reliably informed that’s France in the background.
