One of the great things about shooting on set is that I don’t have to set the lights up myself 😉

Joking aside, the light on film sets is generally the lowest that the DoP can get away with to shoot 25fps and see the actors – not always of course, but the point is that it’s generally not quite enough to get a frozen moment on a stills camera without pumping up the ISO and opening the iris all the way. Unfortunately the D200 noise handling isn’t exactly stellar but generally people don’t notice unless they’re photographers themselves. They just think it’s got moody grain… Me, I look at it and see a very good reason to buy a D700 or a D3…

In the foreground we have Jon, the camera assistant (who I first met on Ryan Haysom’s short film, Feral), and in the background is director Reg Traviss.
